This is a live session recorded at Sound Gallery studios following the Alexandrine album tracking sessions.
The band: 05Ric on drums, Al Swainger on bass, myself (GRICE) on guitars and vocals and Duncan Chave on Ableton, loops and keys.
We were rehearsing for a string of gigs and were fresh from our Berlin Odyssey working on some new (and old songs) - this is (and has always been) a powerful entity, it was written many years ago during the darkest times of my life - the lyrics explain more than sleeve notes possibly can ;(
It is worth noting that this version was recorded as a live take in the studio with an additional vocal overdub - originally performed with The Martyrs (with Grice, his brother Jim Viz & Bully on bass, Jon Picton on drums) and performed as Swanston (with Dave Costello on bass) then later still the song was demo'ed at Animal Farm in London (GRICE, Jon Guard (Bass), Jon Picton (drums)) - this incarnation, recorded at Sound Gallery studios, was only performed once at The Cavern.
The story doesn't end there, I have plans to re-record yet again at Forward studios in Rome where I will be able to move a lot of air....to be continued. G
lyrics
Passionate love, do we run, do we stand and fight
compassionate life, do watch as it crumbles
where do we go, when we lost, what we could not lose
before we can run, we must walk on the water
If my life, is moving sideways
I'll reach the edge
and I feel like I'm drifting
out of reach
ending my days, makes me a better man than I am today
thats because, I couldn't see, all the Damage
we got damaged
I couldn't see
forgive me
Its a game
dont speak of love and I know which way I'm falling
Innocent love, do we stand
magnificent life, do we sleep as it slips away
look at his eyes, look at his hair and he walks like me (as well)
where will he go, into the wound
to get Damage
Here we go
If my life is moving sideways
I'll reach the edge
and I feel like I'm drifting
out of reach
end my days, make me a better man than I am today
thats because, I couldn't see, all the Damage
we got damaged
I couldn't see
forgive me
dont speak of love and I know which way I'm falling
into the water...
anyone....
if I hang my head down low its just because
if I hang my head down low its just because
if I hang my head down low - its just because
we got Damaged, sweetest tongue, sharpest tooth
(don't speak of love and I know which way I'm turning
before we can see, do we have to be blinded
Into my dreams, its got fields and houses
its the one thing you can't take away
I couldn't be higher).
one thing I know.

The eclectic influences of this California group shine through on these creeping tracks, full of dark electronics and intimate vocals. Bandcamp New & Notable Oct 15, 2020
